4:46 pm - I forgot a cupcake!
|
D'OH! How could I forget the cupcakes at one of my FAVORITE bakeries/cafes in the area: French Meadow? I guess I forgot because they're a bit overwhelming for one person to eat X(! While their cupcakes are moist and dense, like Cafe Latté's, they're TWICE as big o~O! One could get diabetes from one cupcake alone. The frosting is also a bit on the sweet sugary side for me too --;. I still prefer Cafe Latté's cupcakes to even glorious French Meadow. I DO highly recommend French Meadow's OTHER decadent desserts though. My sister LIVES on their low-fat berry scones which are just as delicious as their regular scones. I personally love their cakes, and believe me since I've tried almost every cake on their menu! Every single cake I've tried there is THE best I've tasted! Their carrot cake is award winning, moist, dense, and full of flavor with really soft and lush cream cheese frosting! My personal favorite cake though is their triple chocolate cake with lush chocolate whip cream frosting in between the layers!
Their menu is wonderfully diverse AND they even offer several organic, vegan, and gluten-free dishes and desserts (some of which I see you can even order online which I haven't seen in their restaurant)! Even though I'm not a vegan, I LOVE their organic tofu scrambler! It's wonderfully rich in all sorts of flavors! I always order a side of organic tofu scrambler there to whatever else I'm ordering just because! I know my sister has been trying to figure out how to duplicate their organic tofu scrambler for a few years now without any success --;. I think she couldn't figure out what tofu to buy for the right texture XP!
French Meadow also offers REAL hot chocolate made from MELTING REAL CHOCOLATE and mixing it with milk! You've never tasted cocoa or hot chocolate until you've tasted French Meadow's! It's so rich in chocolate flavor, you'll always know when you're drinking the real thing vs. a powdered mixture! If there were a such a thing as a Star Trek transporter, I would invite ALL my friends to eat there at least once, especially my vegan and gluten-sensitive friends!
current mood: full of French Meadow goodness

5:09 pm - Other non-stressful things ^^;!
|
Okay, there's NOTHING I can do now *GRUMBLE GRUMBLE GRIPE GRIPE!* about the STUPID networks including my local ones (one of which I'm a freaking paying member of), so I just have to calm down and not think about their stupidity --;. I should think of pleasant things.
First, for those of you who are actually near a White Castle, do NOT eat Burger King's new burger bites! They're a HORRIBLE attempt at copying the delicious-ness that is White Castle ;b! Burger bites are actually SIAMESE TWIN burgers joined at the hip in the form of an oblong burger patty that you have to pry apart by yourself! Moreover, Burger King smothers them to death in ketchup and mustard! I could barely taste any meat whatsoever even though there is definitely more meat in the burger bites than a White Castle. I will NOT be eating those again =6! Now I'm craving White Castle!
Also, just a couple weeks ago, I finally went to Cupcake Cafe, located right across the street from KSTP in Minneapolis near the U of MN. After many good reviews, I had to try the cupcakes out for myself. I was slightly disappointed though. The cupcakes themselves are pretty ordinary in texture and moistness. They taste and feel like cupcakes one could bake at home with a cake mix. I think I prefer Café Latté's cupcakes better as far as density, taste, and moistness. I was impressed with the variety of cupcakes Cupcake had to offer though including ones filled with pudding (either vanilla or chocolate for their toadstool cupcakes). I wasn't a big fan of Cupcake's frosting either. Most of them were hard and just sugary. Again, I think I prefer Café Latté's scrumptious moist soft frosting, but only if they do chocolate frosting. I really don't like Café Latté's pairing of pink sugar frosting with their chocolate cupcakes. The only cupcake I really liked from Cupcake that I tasted that day was their red velvet cupcake with soft cream cheese frosting =9! I would definitely eat those again! Nonetheless, Cupcake is a nice place to eat if you're looking for a cupcake variety or even small cupcake bites, and it's closer to a major highway than Café Latté!
TV wise, I'm so glad I don't care about the aspect ratio for Celebrity Apprentice whatsoever ;P! It makes watching it a lot easier on my brain! After watching Sunday's episode, I now have a craving for cupcakes hence the paragraph above. I'll have to stop by Cupcake one of these days on the way to work since it's somewhat along the way ^^;. I think I'm going to enjoy this season of Celebrity Apprentice very much >8D!
I also posted more pictures to my Photobucket account (and Facebook) from Taiwan! IT'S THE POTATO CHIP TREE!
The Cadina potato chip tree decorated with RUFFLE potato chips!
Also, isn't this a great name for a diamond/jewelry company X)?
 TIT!
I guess diamonds ARE a girl's best friend! Click here and select an album on the left. The new ones are Christmas trees, display, gem show, Shimen, and Taipei 101.

10:54 am - ARGH >8(!
|
ARGH! I'm so damn FRUSTRATED with this *%*_#!%*!( center-cut TV picture problem! I want to see widescreen/letterboxing for shows filmed in the new aspect ratio, but NO, according to KMSP and KTCA/TPT, I WON'T as long as I'm hooked up to cable/Crapcast watching on an old TV via their ANALOG tier! That seems extremely hypocritical considering who do they think watches their analog tier vs. their digital tier?! KMSP told me flat out that Comcast will give me the CENTER portion of the picture ONLY. KTCA's/TPT's people sounded like a broken record, telling me 8 TIMES that they're 'working' on the problem even though their engineers said that I would only see the center cut too, and I'm currently a MEMBER too! WCCO, whom I tried to contact via Jason DeRusha's Good Question segment, just replied to me once and gave up! KARE-11 gave up on answering me in January!
Sniffle ;_;, how can I watch the big networks this way?! I don't want to miss out on 25% of my picture! KTCA/TPT told me I should 'upgrade' my TV to a new digital TV 8P! Yeah, right, why should I upgrade MY TV set just to watch THEM?! My 25+ year old TVs work FINE. I'm NOT going to buy a new digital TV set that I've heard only lasts an average of 5 YEARS at most when I have quality old TV sets designed to last longer and are repairable!

8:05 pm - Stuff with photos!
|
Last night's Leverage looked like a mini Star Trek reunion show XD! Jonathan Frakes directed the episode with Brent Spiner as the main guy the team tried to con this week with Armin Shimerman doing a small role as a witness in the case! I loved how the show has a geek factor to it from Doctor Who aliases and now Star Trek appearances!
Okay, I FINALLY uploaded a few photos of stuff in my new Photobucket account (because I overloaded my Flickr account with 200 Louvre photos). You'll find pictures of gingerbread plush, some silly photos, goodies from Taiwan (Chibi Tarepanda and Hannari Tofu milk bank and cellphone charms), and interesting stuff from the Ax-Man Surplus store including this beauty!

I've been meaning to take a picture of this for awhile now ever since it got repaired!
( I met one of my crushes this weekend 8D! )
Now I just need to upload all the other photos I have tomorrow, hopefully!

   HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, VENAELI!
I hope you got plenty of cake, ice cream, and presents all around! Any belated wishes? If so, please post here ;)!
Oy, I'm so behind, again, as usual --;. I really wish I had more internet access at home X(! It would make life so much easier!
Mom and I went to see Sword of the Stranger last night via those Fathom one-time-only-showing events. I was surprised Mom actually liked this anime movie, but then again, the story was along the lines of those kung-fu movies they dragged me to as a kid, unwillingly. After the movie, Mom told me the story is somewhat historically based. There WAS actually a group of Chinese soldiers who went looking for some ingredient for immortality in Japan during the CHING dynasty and NOT the Ming dynasty as the movie was set, so it's off by a few hundred years. My guess is that they wanted the setting in the movie to match with some specific era in Japanese history, so they moved the story ahead a few dynasties. According to Mom, those soldiers never found that ingredient for immortality, so they were ashamed to go back home to China and stayed in Japan. I won't spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it, but I guess you can say something 'similar' happened to those Chinese soldiers too.
Mom had a couple of complaints though, naturally. One was that the Chinese characters used in the title did NOT match up with the story. The characters used in the title had something along the lines of a king or emperor. If they had switched out one character, it would have been more along the lines of the movie's main character, a swordsman with no name (called No Name). I don't know if that mistake was intentional or not. The second complaint was that one of the Chinese voice actors apparently couldn't speak Chinese very well ;P! The movie kept the Chinese voice actors lines in areas where the Japanese were speaking English to show they were speaking a different language than the Japanese. Most of the Chinese voice actors spoke well enough for me to understand them except for one guy who did the voice of the Westerner under employ of the Chinese. I'm not sure if that was intentional that his Chinese was bad because he was a foreigner, but Mom also complained that the little kid's Chinese was bad too ;P! I couldn't understand a thing he was saying by ear alone, but then again, he said things that I'm not used to hearing. I thought it was just me not being able to understand those words, but Mom said she had trouble understanding him too!
Mom said Dad would probably have enjoyed this movie too IF we could drag him there in the first place. I guess we'll see next time, depending on what's showing that is!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, JESSICA! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHRISTY!
I hope you both got/get plenty of cake, ice cream, and presents all around! Jessica/ arletta, please either message me here or e-mail me on Gmail your address! I'm not sure if you've changed addresses or not o~O! What I send probably isn't as spectacular as the previous 2 years, but I still hope you'll enjoy what I got for you ^^;! Any birthday wishes, Christy/ ani_chan? If so, please post here ;)!
Oy, I'm a little backlogged after being offline for the most part Monday for office computer work. My scalp from hell has returned after I had to stop using T-Gel for a month because of that neck rash/burn/thing I got in Taiwan. My neck is finally back to normal after a month of suffering and figuring out that hydrocortisone works on it, but my scalp is now itching like crazy o~O! Now I'm back on Clobex™ and T-Gel to try and control it again.
Facebook is somewhat keeping me off Gaia a bit, but I WILL return >8D! My e-mail server has now been down for a week due to network maintenance and upgrading ;(! I've been unable to see any replies to comments here, updates on Facebook, etc.. Broadhurst told me he would have the system up IF I was logged in at the time he takes it down, but I haven't been able to login since it's ALWAYS down now for me. Catch-22 strikes again!
For those of you who watched the SuperBowl and the half-time show, was that Andrew Zimmern in the front row in a blue football jersey fawning over Bruce Springsteen, or was that some other bald-headed dude =/?

1:00 pm - Turn off the power, PLEASE 8b!
|
I watched the premiere episode of the 'new' Electric Company Friday. I was NOT impressed whatsoever --;, but then again, I was spoiled by the old 'cool' version of the show I watched as a kid. The cast is/looks a LOT younger than the original and Square One TV's cast of regulars. By my guess, the cast looked as if they were in their 20s or something, and their all pretending to be HIGH SCHOOL KIDS X(! Yeah, I know the same could be said for Power Rangers, but this cast can't pull off the high school look. I think they look too old for high school kids, but they look a lot younger than any of the previous cast shows CTW/SW has used.
Moreover, there is now a running plot inside each show sort of like Sesame Street's pre-turn-of-the-century episodes. The main plot has 'commercials' for things like mini skits, music videos, animation, etc., like the original series. I would like those interruptions more IF they weren't constantly filled with RAP! I swear EVERY single skit and music video is RAP o~O! Methinks the show's producers and writers think that ALL kids love to rap or something! It's very annoying for me at least. Some rap is okay, but using it through the whole show is a bit too much for me to handle, especially from wanna-be rappers!
I also REALLY HATE THE PLOT >8(! It's a bit too farfetched for me, but I guess I wasn't prepared for such a thing in this show. I could handle Ghostwriter with the mysterious ghost that could only read and write. I love the Power Rangers because it's supposed to be an action sci-fi show. I just can't get my brain to LIKE the plot for the new Electric Company! From what I could understand from the first episode, the Electric Company is a group of young adults with magic powers called special skills that allow them to conjure up letters and words visually and project them anywhere. Each member of the Electric Company also has a different special skill, besides the conjuring letters and words thing. The 'new' member introduced on the first episode can literally draw in thin air. Another older member can rearrange letters. I'm not sure I get the other members powers yet. Anyway, the Electric Company is constantly at odds with a group of miscreants called the Pranksters who love to make trouble for the Electric Company. In this episode, one Prankster stole the special skills/powers of the newest Electric Company member during his swearing in ceremony ;P. I have NO idea how that works o~O! He spends the rest of the episode trying to get his special skills/powers back with the help of the Electric Company, of course. I just wanted to bang my head against the wall trying to get through watching this show --;.
Things somewhat perked up when they did a reprisal of the classic talking shadow heads skit, and I hoped the songs would also be catchy and memorable like the ones from the original show and Square One TV. I was so WRONG X(! What happened to CTW's/SW's song writers?! I KNOW CTW/SW still has pretty good song writers which they're using for Sesame Street, so where are they?! Again, everything was all RAP RAP RAP! Also, I swear many of the lyrics, at least for the silent e RAP song, were stolen from the old show! Yeah, yeah, supposedly, there aren't that many 'clever' ideas for silent e's magical powers, but turning a PLAN into a PLANE and GLOB into a GLOBE were both staples from the old show. The GLOB into GLOBE was ingeniously incorporated and made memorable in Tom Lehrer's old Silent E song. I'm surprised they didn't steal his HUG into HUGE line yet ;P! Alas, poor silent E has now become a NINJA in the new Electric Company world X(!
Silent e is a NINJA! Pub-bub-bub-bub <---- rap noises
AUGH! HEY YOU GUYS! Shape up or ship out! I'm surprised they're also using words that DO NOT EXIST to show off silent e's effect like MISTAK into MISTAKE?! That would be unheard of in the original show. You're trying to teach people how to read and NOT teaching them words that don't exist >8(!
I plan on watching more episodes before I pass my final judgment though, like all shows, but judging from this first episode, things do not bode well.

After being so busy in November and December, I suddenly find myself rather bored in comparison and not rushed on anything except for maybe the impending backlog on Gaia to worry about. I went to several craft shows last month and enjoyed seeing Etsy artists LIVE with their wares X)! I even 'crafted' a bit myself via Archivers' make-and-take acrylic frame project and made some silly frames.
 Domo eating candy
 Domo wading in candy
 Small tree block frame
Yes, I 'stole' those Domo Halloween images from Target's displays by sneaking my digital camera into Target ;b because Target won't give away their old displays anymore. I took a few more Domo Halloween display images besides those, but my sister mainly wanted the Domo candy corn ones. If anyone is interested in the other Domo images I took, just let me know ;). The last one is just a small block thingy I made after making all those acrylic frames that one night at Archivers. I think I made a total of 7 or 8 frames O-O!
I'm not watching much TV besides my essential shows with Leverage just added last month. I LOVE Leverage! I just wish I had a team to do that with all the wrongs in the world 8D! Yes, it truly is more satisfying than any of the Ocean's (10, 11, 12) movies and a lot more fun!
I'm still frustrated that NBC or KARE-11 is NOT showing letterbox anymore for their antenna broadcasts/cable >8(! The only way I can see everything in their proper perspective is to watch the crappy TV set Mom has in the kitchen that's hooked up to a digital antenna box! Now why can't they give me the right perspective, as they had been in the past several years before fall, for shows like Conan O'Brien or Saturday Night Live? I HATE seeing people getting cut off on either side via my old TV set hooked up to cable, and I do NOT want to buy new digital TV sets if my old ones are still working! Thanks a lot, NBC, for cutting off Neil Patrick Harris' entire body on the Whopper Virgins skit by NOT letterboxing the show for me anymore >;P! I feel like I'm getting the WORST end of this digital TV switchover deal.
